Notes Benzoin is a resinoid gum coming from styrax
trees. When the fruit is ripe and the leaves
are about to fall, the bark is incised thus
forming small pockets which permits the
exuded gum tears to be collected.
Benzoin essence is often found as a base note
in various fragrances due to its sweet and
warm smell.

Notes The Sarcocaulon is a spiny shrub with thick
stems. The quantity of resin and wax in it is
so large that plants taken directly from the
soil will burn like a torch, hence the name
Bushman candle.
The Sarcocaulon is present in the Namibian
Himba tribes daily life. Thrown in the fire,
the Bushman Candle gives Oryx meat a
smoked flavor while repelling mosquitoes.

Notes Labdanum is a gum secreted by cistus shrubs
that allows them to be more resistant to the
dry season: a resinous film covers the entire
shrub and prevents it from drying out. Its
amber scents, rarely found in plants, make it
a much sought after ingredient. Labdanum
is traced as far back as the 5th century B.C.
when it was collected by combing the beards
of goats and sheep that had been wandering
around the resinous cistus shrubs.

Notes Opoponax, a cousin of myrrh, is a sweeter
and less bitter gum which presents similar
sensory characteristics. The resin is obtained
by bark exudation either naturally, or after
incision. African tribes use this relaxing and
disinfecting gum as incense, or to perfume a
moisturising preparation made of animal fat.
In perfumery, opoponax is recognised as a
valuable fixative.

Notes The names Storax Honduras, Storax American,
Sweet Gum are generic synonyms of the products
derived from L. styraciflua (native of the
Atlantic coast from Connecticut to Central
America). This Honduran gum is harvested in the
wild through tapping. Since the 19th century, the
gum and the extracts are used in the fragrance
industry as a fixative and a bottom note.
In perfumery, Styrax essential oil is mostly used
